Chuck Jones

Another strange encounter with a comic luminary occurred when I met legendary Warner Brothers animator Chuck Jones at a career retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

There was a wine and cheese social after the screening and I noticed that Chuck was sitting by himself at a table. I put my half-empty wine glass down near him. A few moments later, I looked up and my wine glass was empty. I glanced over at Chuck, who had a Cheshire grin on his face…

Featured above is a Jones classic that has been called “the Citizen Kane of animated film,” One Froggy Evening.” I love everything about it, especially the music.

BTW, did you know who was a composer of the theme music to Warner’s Merrie Melodies cartoons? Give yourself a seegar if you said ‘Ole Banjo Eyes, Eddie Cantor.
